Rearcross 'A' 2 - Kilcommon 1
8th July 2002
Rearcross 'A' advanced to the quarter final stages with a well earned 2-1
victory over a Kilcommon selection. Rearcross started the better team and some
well worked moves on the flanks saw chances created with Joey Nolan coming close
on twelve minutes after Paul Murphy had swung in the cross, while Liam O'Toole
was unlucky minutes later with a headed effort from the edge of the six yard
box. Mike Carr combined well with Brian Carr to set up a threatening attack
in the 24th mintute, however the move was scuppered with a well timed tackle
from John Ryan Luke.
The pace of the game increased in the second half and Rearcross went ahead when
Derek O'Toole got on the end of an Emmet Steed delivery from the right to head
past Kilcommon's Sean Mullins in the 16th minute. Kilcommon were quick to react
and Shane Ryan levelled two minutes later when he shot to the roof of the net
from the edge of the eighteen yard box. Rearcross grabbed the winner in the
27th minute when Darren Malone headed a John Ryan cross to the net from close
range.
