Rearcross 'B' 0 - Doon 6

10th July 2003
As the scoreline decrees this was all one way traffic for Doon as Rearcross 'B' were under by a heavy margin, Doon were never in trouble here and went ahead in the 2nd minute when the ball was scrambled to the net by Dessie Ryan after hesitancy in the Rearcross rearguard, the home side had chances in the first half and a goal at that stage might have put a different perspective on the game, Trevor Delahunty broke on the right in the 12th minute, however Doon keeper Simon Burke advanced, narrowed the angle and made a fine body save. Doon were two in front on 17 minutes when a one two movement left Rearcross flat footed with James Bradshaw on hand to drive past Eamon O'Toole. Doon increased their lead with four minutes remaining when Pat Aherne converted from the penalty spot after Dessie Ryan was pulled down on the edge of the area. Davy Ryan Luke's header was on target with two minutes however the Doon custodian blotted out the danger. Rearcross made a good start to the second half when Paudie Devitt's effort from edge of eighteen yard box was just wide of the upright three minutes after the restart. Rearcross had claims for a penalty turned down in the 8th minute and Noel Deegan's shot from the left was well struck four minutes later. Cain Creedon notched up goal number four with eleven minutes when he showed good pace on the right and drilled to the side netting from a tight angle. Doon were now home and dry and Dessie Ryan made if five nil four minutes later when he knocked over the line from close range after a pile driver from Pat Aherne had whizzed off both uprights before rebounding outwards. Pat Aherne rounded off the scoring with three minutes left on the stopwatch when he blasted to the roof of net from a free kick on the left.
