Ballymackey 'B' 1 - Rearcross 'B' 0

Rearcross 'B' kicked off the new season yesterday with an away fixture against Ballymackey 'B' in the Third Division Shield quarterfinal with Ballmackey emerging victorious on a one nil scoreline. The first first half possession was evenly shared between both teams, with Rearcross strikers Trevor Delahunty and Robert James Hammersley combining well to trouble the Ballymackey defence. A good move from Rearcross down the right wing in the 17th minute produced an opportunity for Adrian Ryan in front of the goal but his attempt was just wide of the target. Ballymackey responded with some good play which ended with a fine shot that goalkeeper Sean Sheehy parried off the cross bar and out for a corner to keep the sides scoreless at the half time whistle. In the second half Rearcross enjoyed a dominant period for 20 minutes applying a lot of pressure on the homeside and were unlucky not to edge ahead in the 71st minute when a Davy Ryan header from a corner wasn't far of the mark. Ballymackey got the only goal of the game in the 75th minute when a clearance from Sean Sheehy was finished to the net by a Ballymackey midfielder from 25 yards. Rearcross pushed hard to get an equaliser but failed to breakdown the Ballymackey rearguard. Rearcross had good performances from Paul Murphy, Joseph Ryan and Liam Nolan(B).
