Rearcross 'A' 7 - Clodiagh Rangers 'A' 1
Rearcross 'A' qualified for the semi-final of the Premier Division shield
last Friday evening in Rearcross with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over an
understrength Clodiagh Rangers squad. The home side did the early attacking,
however Clodiagh Rangers raced in to an early lead in the 8th minute when
Tom Quinlan scorer the opener with a well taken penalty. Emmet Steed levelled
the affair in the 15th minute when he got behind the opposition's defence
and struck the ball past an advancing Declan Carr. Rearcross took the lead
in the 40th minute with an excellent strike by the in form Derek O'Toole
from the edge of the eighteen yard box, a second half dominated by Rearcross
saw Brendan Deegan put Rearcross 3-1 ahead in the 60th minute when his lobbing
shot bounced over the line after hitting the underside of the cross bar.
Rearcross went 4-1 in front three minutes later when a Thomas Kennedy free
kick broke to Emmet Steed who made no mistake with a well struck goal. Oliver
Kennedy had to be at his best in the 69th minute when he saved a superb
effort from Clodiagh's Eoin Shortt. Brendan Deegan gave Rearcross a 5-1
advantage in the 78th minute with a delightful volley from twenty yards.
Rearcross were now fully in control with Brendan Deegan who had been introduced
as a first half substitute for the injured Val Kennedy going on to complete
his hat trick on 82 minutes with a headed goal to the top corner of the
net. Derek O'Toole struck his fifth goal of the season with five minutes
left on the clock when he hit the target from thirteen yards to seal the
victory for the home side.
