Rearcross
'A' 5 - Cloughjordan 'A' 0
Rearcross 'A' collected their first league points last Friday evening in Rearcross
with a five nil victory over Cloughjordan 'A'. The opening goal came in the
19th minute when Derek O'Toole did well on the right and slipped the ball
behind the Cloughjordan defence to Paul Murphy who made no mistake from edge
of the six yard box. Paul Murphy grabbed his second ten minutes later when
his shot finished in the net despite the best efforts of the Cloughjordan
net minder. Rearcross were denied a three nil lead just before half time when
John Ryan Luke's penalty was well saved after Declan O'Toole had to be taken
down to thwart the goal scoring chance. Cloughjordan made a strong start to
the second half and the Rearcross lead was under threat as the visitors piled
on the pressure, however the Rearcross rearguard held firm. The pressure was
lifted when a fine move involving Declan O'Toole on the right wing produced
a pin point cross to the in running Derek O'Toole who headed home from in
front of goal. Derek O'Toole put Rearcross four nil ahead on 78 minutes when
he robbed the Cloughjordan keeper and finished the ball to an empty net. Paul
Murphy completed his hat trick in the 85th minute when he created space to
rifle to the corner of the net from twelve yards.
