Kilcommon 'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 3

 

Rearcross 'A' overcame the challenge of Kilcommon 'A' on a 3-1 scoreline in the Kilcommon Festival Tournament semi-final last Friday night in Kilcommon, Joey Nolan might have broke the deadlock early in the game, however Ger Keane saved well to keep the scoreline intact. Derek O'Toole broke on the left on 14th minutes with Damien Mullins making the tackle to deny the cross. John Ryan Luke was dominant in the air throughout and headed a Mike Carr delivery to safety three minutes later. Exchanges were being evenly shared at this stage and Rearcross keeper Anthony Ryan was called to the rescue when he saved from Vinny Carr. Kilcommon's Ger Keane had to be alert in the 23rd minute when he punched Paul Murphy's cross out of the danger area. Matthew Ryan Luke gave Rearcross the lead a minute later when he blasted to the corner of the net from outside the eighteen yard box after good play by PJ McLoughlin. Rearcross went two in front just before half time when a fine move involving Matthew Ryan Luke and Adrian Hurley found Derek O'Toole in space who drove a left legged effort to the back of the net from twelve yards. Anthony Ryan was quick of his line minutes into the second half and saved at the feet of Brian Mullins. Joey Nolan's well struck shot was straight at Ger Keane who gathered safely with eight minutes remaining. Second half substitute Thomas Kennedy made it three nil a minute later when he latched on to an Adrian Hurley pass and finished to the net from in front of goal. Kilcommon pulled a goal back in the dying moments when Mike Carr's shot was deflected out for a corner, Ger Gilmartin was well postioned on the edge of the box to drive the ball past Anthony Ryan after Rearcross had failed to properly clear the resulting corner kick.
