Rearcross failed to take the points from Blackcastle 'A' last Sunday in Rearcross as the Templemore outfit were victors by four goals to nil, Rearcross took the game to Blackcastle from the kick off and created their fair share of chances despite playing against a gale force wind, the first coming in the 18th minute when Derek O'Toole's shot was parried to safety by the Blackcastle custodian. Paul Murphy also came close with efforts that skimmed across the goal mouth in the 26th and 34th minutes respectively. Blackcastle had been denied in the 25th minute when a well struck shot struck the woodwork, however Blackcastle did take the lead in the 44th minute when Larry Stapleton struck from outside the box. Rearcross were upbeat at half time after turning in a merited first half performance, however it was not to be as the strong winds had a negating effect as the Rearcross challenge disintegrated as the game progressed, Rearcross should have been two behind five minutes into the half, however the Blackcastle chance went a begging. Rearcross were punished for sure twelve minutes into the half when a cross from the right found James Ryan who slotted to the corner on the net from the edge of the six yard box. Further misery was to follow as James Ryan grabbed his second and Blackcastle's third in the 65th minute with a strike from close range after Ricky O'Brien had ran from inside his own half. The victory was put beyond doubt with eight minutes remaining when David Duggan tapped home from in front of goal. Rearcross might have scored in the 72nd minute when Declan O'Toole's headed effort after a goal mouth skirmish struck the cross bar, however the ball was booted to safety, apart from this the Rearcross contribution to the second half was most dismal by any standards and leaves a certain up hill battle for any league title aspirations.
