Bolton F.C. 2 - Rearcross F.C. 2
(Bolton win 5-4 on penalties)

Rearcross made the journey to Waterford to play Bolton F.C. in a first round game of the FAI Junior Cup and were unlucky not to book their passage to next round after succumbing to the home side following a sudden death penalty shootout. Rearcross made a bright start and went one nil ahead in the 5th minute when Joey Nolan rifled to the net from just outside the eighteen yard box. The home side piled on the pressure after this setback, however Rearcross went two nil in front on 18 minutes when Derek O'Toole headed to the net from close range. PJ McLoughin came close to making it three nil on 34 minutes when he got on the end of a through ball from Paul Murphy. Bolton continued to threaten and pulled a goal back five minutes before the half time whistle when Alan O'Brien jumped highest and powered the ball to the corner of the net from the edge of the six yard box. Bolton were on top at the start of the second half and looked dangerous early on, Rearcross upped the tempo and looked as if they might hold on for victory, however Bolton equalised with 13 minutes left on the clock when Kevin Foley got behind the visiting defence and knocked the ball to the net. Extra time failed to produce a winner even though Rearcross had enjoyed the better of the exchanges. Bolton progressed to the next round on a 5-4 score line from the penalty shoot out. John Ryan Luke, Derek O'Toole, Declan O'Toole & Ger Kennedy were the penalty scores for Rearcross, while David Sheridan, Brian Kirwan, Brian Walsh, Kyle Murphy, Darren Walshe were on the mark for Waterford side.
