Kennedy Cup Quarter Final
Rearcross 'B' 0 - Ballinahinch 4
Rearcross 'B' made their exit from the Kennedy Cup last Sunday
in Bilboa when they were on the receiving end of a four nil drubbing by a
strong Ballinahinch outfit. Rearcross went behind in the 21st minute when
Adrian Kelly's free kick from the edge of the eighteen yard box finished in
the back of the net. Anthony Ryan denied Ballinahinch a second goal in the
52nd when he reacted well to save from Matthew Fahy. Rearcross then enjoyed
a dominant period and were somewhat unlucky not to equalise after Paul Murphy
broke on the right and swung in a splendid cross, however the ball rolled
agonisingly across the goalmouth. The visitors were relieved two minutes later
when Paul Murphy's left legged effort from in front of goal was saved by the
Ballinhinch net minder. Ballinahinch had to up the tempo of the game and raced
in to a two goal lead when Alan Kelly found space on the left and slipped
the ball inside the near post on 61 minutes. Rearcross might have been given
lifeline in the 71st minute when a Joey Nolan corner kick broke to Paul Murphy,
however the well stuck shot was inches over the crossbar. Brendan Healy put
the issue beyond doubt in the 83rd minute, when he found space in the box
and rifled to the back of the net. Adrian Kelly rounded off the scoring in
the 89th minute when he got on the end of Don Ryan's through ball to beat
Anthony Ryan for the second time. Rearcross 'B' had good performances from
Joey Ryan, Matthew Ryan(L) and Paul Murphy.
