Rearcross 'A' 0 - Blackcastle 'A' 1

Rearcross A's interest in the Premier Division Shield finished last Wednesday evening in Rearcross with a quarter final defeat on a one nil scoreline by Blackcastle 'A'. Rearcross came close in the 13th minute when a well-executed pass from Liam Nolan in the middle of the field released Paul Murphy on the wing, however the well struck shot from a tight angle was wide of the upright. Blackcastle's James Ryan got on the end of a free kick in the 15th minute, but the headed effort was wide of the target. Derek O'Toole created an opening on 24 minutes and a goal looked certain, however the Blackcastle keeper spread himself well to deny the opportunity. The cross bar kept the scoreline intact in the 28th minute when a Paul Murphy effort from the right clipped the woodwork and out to safety. Liam O'Toole broke on the left three minutes later and swung the ball across the goalmouth, a touch was all that was needed, however the chance went a begging. Rearcross went behind with four minutes remaining in the half when Chris Eid got in to knock the ball to the net from close range. Exchanges were evenly balanced in the second half with Anthony Ryan doing well to save in the 64th minute. Rearcross had a penalty claim for a handball turned down midway through the half. The visitors nearly grabbed a second when A Mel McBride effort from a James Ryan cross wasn't far over the crossbar in the 77th minute. A Joey Nolan strike from thirty yards in the 85th minute looked to heading to the roof of the net, only for the well positioned Mervyn Bradish who saved to deny Rearcross the equaliser.
