Rearcross 'A' 0 - Nenagh Town 'A' 1
Rearcross 'A' fell to Nenagh Town 'A' on a one nil scoreline in
a league tie played at Rearcross F.C. Grounds last Sunday afternoon, Nenagh
started brighty against a Rearcross side that were coming off the heel of
three successive victories against the visitors who signalled their intent
with a headed effort that flew over the bar in the second minute, Rearcross
came back at Nenagh with good foraging by Declan O'Toole forcing the Nenagh
keeper to concede a throw ball in the 10th minute that was eventually cleared.
Rearcross were denied in the 19th minute when Emmet Steed broke on the left
and let fly with a left legged drive that was held by Nenagh's Warren Fletcher.
Nenagh threatened a minute later when a delivery from the end line was floated
menacingly across the goalmouth. Emmet Steed was unlucky in the 24th minute
when his strike pulled to the left of the target. Nenagh were then awarded
a penalty on 26 minutes for a handball incident, Shane O'Gorman duly tucked
the resulting spot kick to the corner of the net. Rearcross enjoyed a period
of dominance after this set back with Emmet Steed coming close in the 34th
minute, while an Adrian Hurley free kick five minutes later was flicked on
by Declan O'Toole only for the ball to run agonisingly across the goal area
and out to safety. Nenagh's Trevor Morrissey struck a left legged volley that
lifted over the crossbar three minutes in to the second half and wasn't far
off again in the 57th minute when his clipped effort was just wide of the
far upright. Rearcross were let off the hook when Shane O'Gorman's penalty
strike came back off the crossbar after a Nenagh player was adjudged to have
been fouled inside the area, Rearcross battled well to get back in to the
game and a move in the 77th minute involving Diarmuid Sheehy and Emmet Steed
found Joey Nolan, however the resulting effort was over the top. Rearcross
created little after this as Nenagh held on to secure the victory that maintains
their unbeaten league run.
