Moneygall 'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 2


Rearcross A made the journey to Barna last Sunday afternoon for a league game against Moneygall A and came away with full points after a tough encounter. Moneygall made the early running and came close ten minutes in to the half when Eoin Ryan's looping shot dipped over the crossbar, while a Paddy Fanning effort was just outside the upright two minutes later. Rearcross were starting to claw their way back and Moneygall keeper Sean McCormack was forced to parry from Emmet Steed in the 16th minute. Rearcross were let of the hook midway through the half when a long delivery over the top found Brian Fanning in space, the resulting shot pulled to the left of the upright at the last second. Eamon McCormack nearly punished hesitancy in the Rearcross rearguard in the 24th minute. Anthony Ryan's well struck effort from the edge of the area was saved by the home keeper a minute later. PJ McLoughlin did well to get a cross in from the right with fifteen minutes remaining in the half, however Ollie Larkin was ideally positioned and headed to safety. Moneygall made a bright opening to the second period and an effort from out on the left wasn't far of target in the opening minute. Rearcross then started to dictate the pace and were on top for most of the second half, Anthony Ryan did well to get in a shot in the 49th minute, a good move involving Val Kennedy, PJ McLoughlin & Anthony Ryan seconds later looked promising, however the ball was cleared. Emmet Steed dribbled through in the 63rd minute and unleashed a fine shot, however Sean McCormack was equal to the effort and showed great agility to knock the ball over the bar. Rearcross went ahead in the 69th minute when Adrian Hurley's pinpoint free kick set up Derek O'Toole who headed to the roof of the net. Moneygall were back in the game on 75 minutes when Brian Fanning broke on the right and sliced to the net for a fine individual goal. Rearcross were quick to react and were back in the lead within two minutes when Anthony Ryan combined with Derek O'Toole who drove a left legged effort to the back of the net. The home side kept battling for the remainder of the game, however Rearcross held on to claim the victory.
