Rearcross 'A' 4 - Toomevara 0


Toomevara were the visitors to Rearcross last Friday evening for this league tie against Rearcross 'A' with the home side coming through with full marks on a four nil score line. Toomevara looked the most threatening early on and Liam O'Toole got a vital headed flick in the 9th minute to thwart a dangerous looking move. Oliver Kennedy came to the rescue a minute later when he palmed a headed effort to safety from a corner kick. A goal for Toomevara at this stage may well have put a different outlook on the game, however it was Rearcross who took the lead in the 19th minute when Derek O'Toole released the ball in to the centre where Emmet Steed controlled well and knocked ball over the goal line. Emmet Steed came close four minutes later with an effort from just inside the eighteen yard box. Toomevara will rue a missed penalty in the 29th minute however credit to Oliver Kennedy who made a fine save to deny the well struck effort. Rearcross doubled their advantage with ten minutes remaining in the half when Derek O'Toole put Emmet Steed through who in turn side footed past the Toomevara keeper. The upright denied Emmet Steed just before half time when his volleyed effort came back in to play. Rearcross were in control for long periods of the second half and went three nil ahead in the 57th minute when Liam O'Toole broke on the right and delivered to Emmet Steed who rifled to the back of the net to complete his hat trick. A well worked Toomevara move a minute resulted in a headed effort that was on target, however Oliver Kennedy was positioned to gather. PJ McLoughlin made space to get a shot in midway through the half. Matthew Ryan Luke's effort came of the underside of the crossbar 86th and back out in to play. Davy O'Toole copper fastened the victory in the 88th minute with a fine finish from an acute angle.
