Rearcross 'B' 4 - Templetouhy 3

An action packed first round Tipperary Cup game played in Rearcross last Sunday afternoon saw Rearcross 'B' progress to the next stage at the expense of Templetouhy 'B' on a 4-3 scoreline. Rearcross applied the pressure from the kick off, in a half that was to produce six goals and were in front on eight minutes when Tommy Ryan Luke set up Nigel Ryan who finished to the net from close range. Rearcross increased their lead three minutes later when Trevor Delahunty blasted to the net after a Nigel Ryan through ball. Rearcross were coasting at this stage and enjoyed a three nil lead in the 17th minute when Nigel Ryan broke on the right and shot to the corner of the net. The woodwork then denied the home side from going further ahead, firstly when James Nolan's attempt hit the post on twenty minutes and again five minutes later after Liam Ryan's effort came back off the upright. The visitors counter attacked after this let off and won a free kick on the edge of the box, which was finished the Rearcross net by Liam Kelly. Templetouhy were now back in the game and reduced the deficit further in the 34th minute when P.J. O'Brien took advantage and knocked the ball home. Rearcross regrouped towards the end of the half and went 4-2 ahead on the stroke of half time when Nigel Ryan completed his hat trick after lofting the ball over the Templetouhy keeper. The pace of the game slowed somewhat in the second half, however Rearcross stuck to their guns well as Templetouhy battled to get back in to the game, the tie was set up for a hectic finish when Martin O'Leary gave his side a life line when he converted from in front of goal with ten minutes remaining, Rearcross finished the game with their backs to the wall and were fortunate when Matthew Ryan Luke was well positioned to head off the line just before the final whistle sounded.
