Toomevara 'A' 1 - Rearcross 'A' 6

Rearcross 'A' finished 2003 on a winning note with an emphatic victory against Toomevara in a league fixture played at the Toome venue last Sunday morning, Rearcross had to endure some anxious moments in this game despite the appearance of the final score line. Rearcross got off to a flying start when Matthew Ryan Luke was on hand to blast to the net from close range in the 4th minute, Davy O'Toole made it two nil in the 22nd minute when he nipped in on the right and slotted home from an acute angle. Toomevara got a goal back in the 37th minute when a free kick from out on the right finished in the net. Toomevara had claims for a penalty turned down minutes later with Rearcross in all sorts of disarray. Rearcross regrouped at half time and stretched their lead two minutes in to the half when a text book move found Joey Nolan in space on the left who hit first time and send a curling shot to the top corner of the net for the goal of the game. Liam Nolan(B) not to be outdone by the younger brother got in on the action four minutes later with a left legged drive that sailed past the Toomevara net minder. Rearcross could now breathe a sigh of relief, although Toomevara did come close with two well worked efforts. Liam Nolan(B) made it 5-1 in the 80th minute with a strike from close range, Martin McLoughlin got his name on the scoresheet with two minutes remaining when he knocked the ball over the line at the near post to copperfasten a badly needed three points for Rearcross 'A'.
