Thurles Town 'B' 3 - Rearcross 'B' 2
Rearcross 'B' went under on a 3-2 scoreline to Thurles Town 'B' in a Reserve
Division league fixture played at Loughagalla Park last Sunday afternoon.
Rearcross created the early openings with Nigel Ryan coming close in the 9th
minute. Anthony Ryan kept the score line intact on 15 minutes with a good
save from a deftly taken free kick. Thurles edged ahead in the 25th minute
with an opportunist goal when the ball should have been cleared. Rearcross
were denied an equaliser in the 35th minute when Liam Ryan's effort hit the
post. Rearcross were awarded a penalty two minutes later which was coolly
dispatched to back of the net by Nigel Ryan to leave the sides level at the
half time whistle. The crossbar came to the rescue for Rearcross early in
the second half. The visitors took the lead in the 65th minute when the ball
broke from a goalmouth skirmish to Matthew Ryan Luke who drove home from close
range. Rearcross conceded a second goal five minutes later from the penalty
spot. Thurles scored what proved to be the winner with ten minutes remaining
with a headed goal from the edge of the six yard box. Rearcross were robbed
in the 86th minute when the woodwork was to deny Liam Ryan for the second
time after his shot from inside the eighteen yard box struck the crossbar.
