Rearcross 'B' 3 - Cormacstown 'B' 4
Rearcross B were at home to Cormackstown 'B' last Sunday morning.
The visitors made the better start and enjoyed a lot of possesion and had
the Rearcross defence under pressure in the opening ten mintues, however it
was Reacross who struck first in the 11 minute, when Noel Deegan stole the
ball from the Cormackstown centre half and took it to the by line and pulled
back for Eamon Devitt to tap in from close range. Cormackstown continueed
to put pressure on the Rearcross defence and were rewarded in the 25 minute
when the ball was headed home following a cross from the right wing. Cormackstown
added a second before half time when the ball was scrabbled to the net from
two yards following a corner kick. Rearcross started the brighter in the second
half and were rewarded ten mintues into the half when Nigel Ryan who was a
half time substitue, capitalised on a defensive misunderstanding beteen the
Cormackstown goal keeper and centre half, stole the ball and tapped into a
empty net. Rearcross now enjoyed their best spell of the game and exerted
alot of presure on Cormackstown and were rewarded with a fine drive from Nigel
Ryan from the edge of the box into the top corner when the ball broke to him
from a cross on the right wing. Cormackstown responded and upped their game
and for the next ten minutes and had Rearcross on the back foot. Rearcross
defended well and kept out several Cormackstown attacks. The Thurles sides
pressure eventually paid when the ball was headed to the net by a Rearcross
defender. Cormackstown pressed for a winner and got it with eight mintues
to go when a shot from the edge of the box curled pass the Rearcross keeper
and into the bottom right corner. Rearcross tried to salvage a point over
the next few mintues but were unable to breach the Cormackstown defence.
