Rearcross 'A' 6 - Ballymackey 3
Rearcross 'A' secured their position in the Premier Division
last Sunday afternoon in Rearcross with a 6-3 victory over Ballymackey, the
home side made a good start but failed to register a score against a determined
Ballymackey team, with PJ McLoughlin coming closest with a good strike that
was well saved in the 14th minute. Ballymackey came in to the game and looked
dangerous up front, however it was Sean Kennedy who gave Rearcross a one nil
advantage in the 35th minute when he met Derek O'Toole's corner kick to perfection
as the headed effort flew straight to the top corner. Martin McLoughlin made
it two nil in the 41st minute when he floated a long range effort to the roof
of the net. Rearcross raced in to a three nil in the 54th minute when Derek
O'Toole collected the ball in the middle of the field, advanced on goal and
drove a left legged effort to the corner of the net for a fine individual
goal. Rearcross looked to be home and dry at this stage, however the visitors
had different intentions and opened their account in the 56th minute when
Willie Seymour was given too much space on the left and took full advantage
with a low pile driver that went just inside the post. Rearcross were rocked
three minutes later when Ballymackey were awarded a penalty for a pushing
infringement, Rory Mounsey stepped up and slotted the spot kick to the back
of the net. Rearcross had to dig deep in the following minutes to thwart the
Ballymackey onslaught, this was done with commendable effort which was rewarded
in the 73rd minute when Martin McLoughlin booted his second to the net from
ten yards despite the best efforts of the visiting custodian. PJ McLoughlin
made it 5-2 in the 80th minute when he sprinted through the centre and rifled
to the net from twelve yards. Joey Nolan got his name on the score sheet with
seven minutes remaining with a clinical free kick from the edge of the box,
Ballymackey kept plugging to the end and pulled a goal back with three minutes
remaining when a good move on the left produced a fine cross that was headed
over the line by a well positioned Padraig Hackett.
