Rearcross 'A' 2 - Arra Rovers 2
Rearcross 'A' had to come from behind twice last Sunday morning
in Rearcross to take a share of the spoils against league leaders Arra Rovers.
The opening exchanges were evenly balanced however it was the Portroe side
who got the opener in the 12th minute when John Hogan flicked a headed effort
to the side netting from close range. Rearcross defended well for the remainder
of the half to keep the visitors at bay but failed to penetrate up front.
Rearcross were on top at the start of the second half and were back on par
three minutes in to the half when a good move found Derek O'Toole advancing
on the left who was bundled off the ball inside the area, John Ryan Luke rifled
the resulting spot kick to the back of the net. Arra Rovers went ahead again
in the 68th minute when Anthony Kennedy broke through the centre and finished
to the net from inside the eighteen yard box. Rearcross kept battling and
were rewarded with four minutes remaining when Matthew Ryan Luke's mazy run
through the middle released Joey Nolan on the right who in turn drilled past
the Arra net minder from the tightest of angles. Arra Rovers piled on the
pressure for the remaining minutes, however the Rearcross rearguard stood
firm to collect a well earned point.
