Cormacstown 'A' 3- Rearcross 'A' 1

Rearcross 'A' were defeated 3-1 by Cormacstown 'A' in a Tipperary Cup semi-final game played at the Thurles venue, Rearcross were dominant in the first half and will rue that this dominance wasn't reflected on the scoreboard at the half way stage, instead it was the home side who grabbed a goal just on the stroke of half time, Rearcross playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half made the better start, Matthew Ryan Luke put in a decisive tackle on Diarmuid Delahunty in the 3rd minute to thwart a Cormacstown attack, Rearcross came close two minutes later when Joey Nolan's well struck free kick from twenty five yards wasn't far away, another free kick from John Ryan Luke two minutes later was over the top, Rearcross were well on top and Derek O'Toole's free kick in the 14th minute from the edge of the box was on target, however the Cormacstown kepper got down well to smother the effort. A goalmouth skirmish in the 21st minute saw the Cormacstown defence eventually clear to safety, Rearcross came close again in the 24th minute when PJ McLoughlin turned in front of goal and let fly a fine effort, the ball was heading for the top corner only for the PJ Ryan's agile save to deny the attempt. Cormacstown started to gain territorial advantage and Val Kennedy did well to head a free kick clear on 30 minutes. Rearcross were struck a cruel blow a minute before the half time whistle when Cormacstown attacked on right, a cross from the corner flag was flicked on by Diarmuid Delahunty to Michael O'Sullivan who headed to the net from close range. Rearcross were denied an equaliser five minutes in to the second half when Derek O'Toole burst through the centre, the Cormacstown custodian was quick to react and raced off his line to make the block. The home side should have extended their lead in the 55th minute when an opportunity from in front of goal was put straight at Oliver Kennedy. Rearcross were left with a tough task in the 77th minute when Kevin O'Dwyer broke on the right and slammed to the net from inside the eighteen yard box. Rearcross went three nil in arrears with six minutes remaining when Kenny Corbett was given too much space and punished accordingly with a well taken goal. Rearcross got a consolation goal in the 90th minute when John Ryan Luke converted from the penalty spot, however this was too little too late, best of luck to Cormacstown in the final.
