Rearcross 'A' 5 - Nenagh Town 'A' 4
Rearcross F.C. Rearcross 'A' progressed to the second round
of the FAI Junior Cup last Sunday in Rearcross with a 5-4 victory against
Nenagh Town 'A' after a high tension extra time period that produced five
goals, Rearcross made the better start and were a goal to the good after four
minutes when Matthew Ryan Luke put the ball in the Nenagh net following a
John Ryan Luke free kick, Rearcross were reduced to ten men in the 16th minute
as a result of a second yellow card, Rearcross held their own after this setback
and had their chances to extend their lead, however it was Nenagh who levelled
late in the half when a Shane O'Gorman effort finished in the net. Rearcross
restored their lead ten minutes into the second half when good play from PJ
MCLoughlin set up Derek O'Toole who rounded the keeper and right footed the
ball to the net, Nenagh drew level for the second time on seventy nine minutes
when Shane O'Gorman dispatched to the net from the penalty spot. The sides
were still deadlocked at the end of ninety minutes so the tie was taken to
extra time with Derek O'Toole edging Rearcross ahead in the 94th minute with
a headed goal from a Liam O'Toole cross. The home side were given some breathing
space all be it short lived in the 99 minute when creative play from Emmet
Steed put Derek O'Toole who drove over the line from in front of goals. Nenagh
came out with all guns blazing in the second period of extra time and reduced
the deficit to a minimum after three minutes when Michael Hogan hit the target,
Rearcross were now on the back foot as Nenagh went in search of an equaliser,
a fine move in the 108th minute levelled the sides at four all when Trevor
Morrissey slotted home from inside the box, a neat passing movement from the
resulting kick off gave Rearcross the last say when Shane Reynolds linked
up with Derek O'Toole who rifled his fourth of the day past the Nenagh custodian
to give Rearcross a commendable victory.
