Blackcastle 'A' 5 - Rearcross 'A' 1
Rearcross 'A' were comprehensively beaten on 5-1 scoreline
by Blackcastle 'A' in a league fixture played in Templemore last Sunday morning,
the home side dominated for long spells in this game and went ahead in the
7th minute when the ball was finished to the net by Davy Russell after a poor
reaction to a corner kick, Rearcross were back on level terms in the 11th
minute when Sean Kennedy's long range effort was on target. Blackcastle were
denied in the 28th minute when Ger Kennedy saved Ricky O'Brien's effort from
the penalty spot. Rearcross conceded a second just before the half time whistle
when a good move on the right saw the ball pulled back to Stephen Revins who
drilled a left legged effort that skimmed the inside of the post. Rearcross
made a good start to the second half and were unlucky not to edge ahead when
Emmet Steed's headed effort wasn't far off. Blackcastle increased their advantage
on 56 minutes when James McCarthy turned and planted the ball in side the
far post. It was all one way traffic after this and Johnny Doran made it 4-1
one midway through the half when he raced from outside the box and slammed
the ball to the back of the net. Blackcastle rounded off the scoring with
ten minutes remaining when sloppy play from the visiting team resulted in
Killian O'Neill getting his name on the score sheet.
