Rearcross
'A' 0 - Clodiagh Rangers 4
Rearcrosss 'A' fell to Clodiagh Rangers on a four nil score line in a league
game played at the home venue last Sunday morning, Rearcross made a strong
start to this game and created the early openings coming close with efforts
from Nigel Ryan and Emmet Steed, Clodiagh took an unlikely lead against the
run of play in the 12th minute when Rearcross squandered possession from a
free kick, an attack down the left saw the ball break to Jody Brennan who
knocked to the net from close range, the visiting keeper was well positioned
to block Anthony Ryan's well struck free kick with 22 minutes gone on the
clock, Davy O'Toole was unlucky minutes later when his looping header from
an Nigel Ryan cross was over the bar, Rearcross struggled after this and Jody
Brennan's well struck shot was inches over in the 31st minute, the visitors
were two in front in the 34th minute when slack marking allowed Denis McCullagh
head to the net following a corner kick, Rearcross went further behind with
two minutes remaining in the half when Jody Brennan grabbed a fortuitous second
when he got a headed touch to a free kick. Rearcross were chasing the game
after this and tried hard to get back in to the game at the start of the second
half, Paul Hogan's well struck shot wasn't far off in the 53rd minute, Paul
Hogan then linked up with Nigel Ryan in the 64th minute who advanced on goal
and stuck on target only for the upright to deny Rearcross a life line that
might have made a difference, Paul Hogan was unlucky a minute later when his
first time effort saw the Clodiagh netminder well positioned to gather cleanly,
the issue was put beyond doubt with nineteen minutes remaining when Clodiagh
broke on the right, Denis McCullagh took up the running before chipping to
the corner of the net from the edge of the box to leave Rearcross with an
uphill battle for the remainder of the season.
