Blackcastle 'A' 3 - Rearcross 'A' 0
Rearcross travelled to the Templemore venue last Sunday afternoon
for this league encounter and played second best to a Blackcastle side who
reversed the earlier league result between the sides with an identical scoreline,
indeed it would have been a much different outcome had Rearcross been more
fortunate in front of goal in an opening half that saw Rearcross well on top,
however the first half dominance wasn't reflected on the score board and Rearcross
paid a heavy price as a result, Rearcross took control of the game from the
kick off and were playing with composure, Emmet Steed linked up with Derek
O'Toole twelve minutes in who's shot whizzed outside the far upright, Rearcross
threatened again two minutes later when Emmet Steed played the ball through
to Derek O'Toole, this time the Meryvn Bradish was well positioned to save.
Blackcastle were denied on 16 minutes when a cross from the right found Domo
Byrne who's effort was inches wide of the target. Derek O'Toole did well to
rob the Blackcastle netminder and was unlucky to see his reflex effort from
an acute angle lob over the bar with fourteen minutes remaining in the half.
Rearcross playing against a strong breeze in the second half got off to a
terrible start in the 1st minute when play broke in the middle of the field,
the ball was driven in the direction of the Rearcross goal and it was Domo
Bryne who made most of the situation with a darting run that saw the ball
lofted over an advancing Mark Barry in the Rearcross goals, Rearcross battled
to get back in to the game and John Ryan Luke's free kick wasn't far off in
the 51st minute. Blackcastle counter attacked and had increased their lead
within a minute when Rearcross were slow to clear on the left and Domo Byrne
took full advanage as he rifled to the net from a tight angle. Rearcross were
left with an uphill battle in the 58th minute when Domo Byne did the damage
again on the right, this time Mark Barry got down to parry, however Nigel
Pearson was on hand to knock to the net from close range, Rearcross did their
best to get back in to the game, PJ McLoughlin's cross was met by Emmet Steed
with eight minutes remaining, then Liam O'Toole did well to get a headed touch
on Adrian Hurley's free kick in the 87th minute, however the three goal blitz
by the home side in a thirteen minute spell at the start of the second half
had proved the difference on the day.
