Rearcross
'A' 5 - Ballymackey/Toome 0
Rearcross 'A' took full points against a depleted but tenacious
Ballymackey/Toome side in a league fixture played in Rearcross last Sunday
morning, Derek O'Toole had the ball in the opposition's net inside the 1st
minute, however play was called back because of an off side infringement.
Ballymackey defended in depth and the home side had to wait until the 21st
minute for the opener when good interplay found Emmet Steed in space who struck
a left legged effort past the Ballymackey net minder. Rearcross went two in
front on 32 minutes when Matthew Ryan broke from midfield and set up Derek
O'Toole who turned his marker and drilled to the net from inside the box.
The visiting custodian pulled off a fine save three minutes later when Liam
O'Toole's nicely struck effort was heading for the top corner. Slack defending
might have proved costly for Rearcross five minutes before the break when
a deftly struck corner kick floated away from the danger area after inaction
from the Rearcross rearguard. The home side went three nil ahead just before
half time when Martin McLoughlin advanced on the left and sent a twenty five
yard drive to the back of the net. Davy O'Toole threatened for Rearcross two
minutes in to the second half, however the keeper got down well to hold the
effort. Rearcross extended their lead in the 56th minute when PJ McLoughlin
linked up with Davy O'Toole who knocked the ball inside the far upright with
a clinical flick on from twelve yards. Declan O'Toole rounded off the scoring
against a resolute visiting side with five minutes remaining after making
room in side the box before slotting to the net from in front of goal
