Cormacstown 'B' 1 - Rearcross 'B' 2
Rearcross 'B' came through this preliminary round of the Nora Kennedy
Cup against Cormacstown on a 2-1 score line at the away venue last Sunday
morning. The heavy underfoot conditions made the going difficult, however
both teams adapted well to produce an entertaining game of football. Rearcross
were the more creative early on and came with efforts from Thomas Kennedy
and Liam Ryan. The visitors went ahead on the twenty five minute mark when
Thomas Kennedy put Nigel Ryan through whose first time shot flew past the
Cormacstown keeper, the sides battled it out for supremacy after this and
it was Rearcross who eventually added to the score line on 74 minutes when
Thomas Kennedy chased down what seemed to be a lost cause, the ball was robbed
from the Cormacstown defender and crossed to Liam Ryan who headed his tenth
of the season to the net. A battling Cormacstown side didn't throw in the
towel and were given a life line with two minutes remaining with a fine goal
to leave the game in the balance, Rearcross were forced to defend in numbers
until the final whistle sounded and passage to the next round was secured,
Rearcross had good displays from Eamon Devitt, Thomas Kennedy, Anthony Ryan
and Paul Murphy as well as the ever reliable Denis Kennedy and Tommy Ryan
Luke who were prominent throughout.
