Rearcross F.C. Rearcross Youths recorded a merited 4-2 victory
over Borrisoleigh last Wednesday evening in their debut game of North Tipperary
& District League Youths football and in so doing advanced to the Final of
the Youths Shield after receiving two walkovers in earlier rounds, Rearcross
were on the attack from the off and Liam Lynch got in a shot in the 5th minute
which wasn't far off the mark, Rearcross took the lead on 17 minutes when
the ball broke to Liam Lynch who drove to the net from the edge of the box,
Jim Caplis came to the rescue for Rearcross a minute later with a fine reflex
save, Borrisoleigh were coming more in to the game at this stage and Tom Hickey
was forced to clear of the line in the 35th minute, the visitors dominance
paid off minutes later when Rory O'Donnell rounded Jim Caplis and knocked
to the net from close range, Rearcross were winning territorial advantage
at the start of the second half and went in front again in the fifth minute
when Paul Hogan broke on the right before calmly slotting past the Borrisoleigh
custodian, the lead was short lived as the sides were level within a minute
after Paul Maher raced down the right flank and chipped the ball over the
goal line, the visitors might have gone in front two minutes later, however
the effort from in front of the goal was barely over the bar. Rearcross edged
ahead again with twenty minutes remaining when Seamus Feehan guided the ball
to the net after good work by Larry McLoughlin. Rearcross scented victory
and upped the tempo of the game, Jamie Ryan made sure of the win with nine
minutes remaining with a left legged effort from just inside the box that
went straight to the corner of the net, a fine overall performance from all
players on their debut in NT&DL Youths football that saw Rearcross advancing
to the final of the Youths Shield to challenge Nenagh Town who dished out
a heavy trouncing to Nenagh Celtic in the other semi-final.
