Rearcross
'A' 2 - Cormacstown Rovers 1
Rearcross 'A' turned in a gutsy performance in Rearcross last
Sunday to collect all three points against Cormacstown Rovers on a 2-1 score
line, the visitors made the early running and Robert Jordan's effort wasn't
far over in the 18th minute. Matthew Ryan Luke then got in a shot for Rearcross
two minutes later after a good move started in the middle of the field, however
the visiting keeper was positioned to gather. Cormacstown were looking the
more likely to score and the opener came in the 27th minute when Robert Jordan
linked up with Kevin O'Dwyer who sliced the ball to the top corner of the
net from the edge of the eighteen yard box, Rearcross were struggling at this
stage and it took a goal line clearance from Simon Kennedy two minutes later
to keep the score line intact, the Cormacstown onslaught continued and Jim
Caplis made a brave save at the feet of Robert Jordan on 31 minutes. Rearcross
worked their way back in to the game towards the end of the half and were
given a much needed boost two minutes before the half time whistle when a
fine passing movement started in the middle of the field by Matthew Ryan Luke
saw Paul Hogan releasing Nigel Ryan who kept his cool before drilling a low
shot to the corner of the net. The visitors made a strong start to the second
half and Jim Caplis was called in to action five minutes after the restart
with a good save. Rearcross took the lead in the 56th minute when a long delivery
over the top from Matthew Ryan Luke saw Nigel Ryan race through on goal before
sending a low daisy cutter to the back of the net. Rearcross were firing on
all cylinders at this stage and Martin McLoughlin pushed forward a minute
later to get in a shot that wasn't far away. Rearcross continued to surge
forward and Paul Hogan passed to Emmet Steed on the 70th minute mark, who
in turn found Davy O'Toole in space with the first time shot pulling to the
right of the upright. Cormacstown kept plugging and John Ryan Luke was well
positioned to head Eoin Dorney's pile driver to safety in the 75th minute,
Jim Caplis did well to get a touch on a long delivery to avert the danger
with two minutes remaining, however it was not to be for the visitors on this
occasion as Rearcross held on to claim a much needed victory.
