Nenagh
Celtic 'A' 3 - Rearcross 'A' 0
Rearcross 'A' travelled to the Nenagh venue last Sunday for a league game against
Premier Division league leaders Nenagh Celtic and came away empty handed after
losing on a three nil score line, Rearcross will rue not getting on the score
sheet in an opening half where the visitors enjoyed more than their fair share
of possession, Rearcross made the first incision two minutes in when Diarmuid
Sheehy linked up with Emmet Steed on the left with Damien Mullins unlucky at
the back post, Shane Reynolds swung the ball in to Davy O'Toole in the 6th minute
with Sean Mullins getting on the end of the delivery, however the home side
managed to cleared their lines. Rearcross continued to attack but were failing
to breakdown a resilient Nenagh Celtic rearguard, the home side edged ahead
somewhat against the run of play in the 16th minute when Padraig O'Meara was
taken down in the box with Neil O'Donnell making no mistake from the penalty
spot. Sean Sheehy came to the rescue for Rearcross midway through the half when
he reacted to push a Jimmy Hynes effort around the post. Simon Kennedy did well
to get on the end of Davy O'Toole's corner kick with twelve minutes remaining
in the half, however the effort was saved at the near post. Rearcross were denied
an equaliser in the 40th minute when Emmet Steed's penalty kick skimmed the
outside of the upright, Nenagh Celtic went two nil ahead just on the stroke
of half time when Rearcross were slow to react to a long delivery from a free
kick with Padraig O'Meara getting the headed touch that mattered. Nenagh Celtic
dominated affairs in the second half and it took some fine goalkeeping from
Sean Sheehy to keep the league leaders at bay, the first save coming five minutes
with a body block when Celtic were clean through, Rearcross battled to get back
in to the game, but were struggling to create anything worthwhile in front of
goal, Sean Sheehy did well again in the 60th minute when he closed the angle
as Jimmy Hynes raced through before making a fine save in the 60th minute. Sean
Mullins released Davy O'Toole two minutes later, however Nenagh Celtic's Stevie
Ryan closed in to avert the danger. Damien Mullins fired in a shot in the 72nd
minute with the Celtic keeper nicely positioned to gather. Rearcross went further
in arrears with sixteen minutes remaining when Jimmy Hynes broke down the middle
before rifling to the corner of the net from just inside the eighteen yard box,
Sean Sheehy was again in the action on 81 minutes with a save from the boot
of Stevie Ryan, Rearcross were then denied what would have been a consolation
goal in the 89th minute when Simon Kennedy's penalty kick struck the underside
of the crossbar to round off a luckless trip to Nenagh on this occasion.
