Blackcastle 'B' 1 - Rearcross 'B' 2
Rearcross 'B' stayed very much in contention for promotion with
a narrow win against Blackcastle on a 2-1 score line in this Second Division
played in Templemore last Sunday morning, the visiting side applied all the
early pressure and were dominating the midfield exchanges with Eamon Devitt
and Declan O'Toole prominent. Nigel Ryan put Rearcross ahead after twenty
minutes following a good passing movement involving Thomas Kennedy and Liam
Ryan, Blackcastle had their chances too in the opening half, however Rearcross
defending in depth to thwart the home side. Rearcross took off where they
left off in the second half and went two nil ahead early on when Declan O'Toole
who turned in a man of the match performance chased down a Thomas Kennedy
delivery and bravely slipped the ball past an advancing Blackcastle custodian.
The home side pulled a goal back in the 74th minute, Rearcross defended gallantly
right to the end and Liam Ryan was unlucky with two smashing efforts late
in the game, however Rearcross had done enough to secure the win with a dogged
and committed display. Rearcross 'B' wore black armbands as a mark of respect
for the late Liam Caplis, a minute's silence was also observed prior to kick
off.
