Holycross 1 - Rearcross 'B' 2

Rearcross 'B' were away to Holycross in this Divisional Cup semi-final played in Holycross last Sunday morning, Rearcross found themselves behind after eight minutes when a floated cross slid against the crossbar with Holycross taking full advantage with a headed goal from close range. Rearcross were subsequently on the back foot for most of the first half and would have gone further in arrears but for dogged defending from the Rearcross rearguard, the visitors also had their best chance of the opening half midway through with the Holycross keeper pulling off a fine save from the boot of Nigel Ryan following a clinical through ball from an in form Thomas Kennedy, Rearcross upped the ante in the second half and virtually laid siege on the Holycross goal for most of the half, Liam Nolan(B) forced the concession of a penalty in the 20th minute, the Holycross custodian was on his game and made a fine save from Nigel Ryan's spot kick. This was a minor set back however, and Liam Nolan, Thomas Kennedy and Nigel Ryan typified a Rearcross never say die attitude that saw the visitors battle their way back in to the game. Rearcross were back on level terms midway through the half when Nigel Ryan collected a Liam Nolan pass before slipping his marker and curling an unstoppable shot from twenty yards passed a helpless Holycross keeper. Rearcross grabbed the all-important goal in the 78th minute when Liam Ryan made a dazzling run before unleashing another spectacular effort to give Rearcross the lead. The home side fought to the end and Rearcross keeper Jim Caplis saved the day when he pushed a vicious in swinging corner away from the danger area after a period of sustained pressure from a strong Holycross side, in any case last seasons Third Division League winners were full value for their semi-final placing against Blackcastle 'B'
