Murroe AFC 2 - Rearcross 'A' 3

Rearcross 'A' travelled to the Murroe venue for this pre-season friendly and were victors on a 3-2 score line against a lively Murroe side, Rearcross got the dream start when Damien Mullins blasted to the back of the net from the penalty spot following a robust tackle inside the box. Murroe regrouped and Sean Sheehy saved well four minutes later. Rearcross were two nil ahead in the 12th minute when Nigel Ryan took control just inside the box and drove to the net despite the attentions of Anthony McKenna. The home side pulled a goal back three minutes later when Anthony McKenna jumped highest to head home from a free kick floated in from the right. Sean Sheehy produced the save of the match after stretching full length to block when the ball looked destined for the side netting with twenty minutes remaining in the half. Rearcross were let of the hook minutes later when Pat Kenny's headed effort ricocheted off the woodwork. Paddy Ryan Luke did well to fire a shot on target in the 32nd minute, however the Murroe custodian was positioned to hold. Murroe were well in the game at the start off the second half and Rearcross were forced to defend in numbers to keep the Limerick side at bay. Rearcross waited until the 23rd minute of the second half before creating anything worthwhile when Paddy Ryan Luke broke down the right flank before swinging in a deft cross which was met by Davy O'Toole, again the Murroe net minder's positioning was spot on to make the save. Second half substitute Declan O'Toole was making a big impact and slotted inches over the bar with fifteen minutes remaining, Murroe threatened two minutes later with a free kick that was ably gathered by Sean Sheehy. Rearcross restored their two goal cushion with ten minutes remaining with a class move when Davy O'Toole back heeled to the path of Declan O'Toole who sliced with precision to the corner of the net. Murroe who played a good passing game throughout reduced the deficit with two minutes remaining when Anthony McKenna got his second of the day with a finish from close range, however this proved to be a consolation goal as the referee sounded the final whistle moments later to bring an end to what was a most entertaining encounter.
