Cloughjordan 0 - Rearcross 'A' 4

Rearcross 'A' travelled to the Cloughjordan venue for this Premier Shield Quarter Final and eventually came through on a four nil score line. Rearcross opted to play with wind advantage in the first half, however the home side took the game to Rearcross in the opening minutes coming close following a corner kick. Rearcross broke downfield where Paddy Ryan Luke set Nigel Ryan through whose effort was parried to the path of Derek O'Toole who in turn drove his first of the season to the back of the net from the edge of the six yard box. Rearcross were playing with fluency at this point and some good interchanges between Paddy Ryan Luke and Nigel Ryan saw the latter swing in the cross with the ball breaking to Sean Mullins who let fly from outside the box with a well stuck effort that wasn't far over. Cloughjordan threatened minutes later with a good move on the left, however Rearcross defended stoutly. A long delivery from Jim Caplis in the 25th minute saw Nigel Ryan heading backwards to the feet of Liam Ryan who was unlucky to see his strike pull to the right of the upright, Jim Caplis was in the action again two minutes later when he did well to come off his line to punch the ball to safety. The home side were winning their fair share of possession and Tommy Ryan Luke was alert in the 36th minute to put in a telling tackle. Rearcross finished the half strongly and went two nil ahead three minutes before the half time whistle when Sean Mullins broke from midfield and slammed the ball to the net from inside the eighteen yard box for a fine individual goal. Cloughjordan made a strong start to the second half forcing successive corners inside the first two minutes, the home side kept the pressure on and came close again with a headed effort from a corner kick seven minutes in to the half. Rearcross upped the tempo with Paddy Ryan Luke and Sean Mullins winning the better of the midfield exchanges. Jim Caplis came to the rescue for Rearcross when he reacted superbly to turn the ball around the post on 64 minutes. Rearcross increased their tally in the 78th minute when Liam Ryan's corner kick broke to PJ McLoughlin who was on target from the edge of the eighteen yard box. Second half substitutes Paul Murphy and Davy O'Toole linked up with six minutes remaining with Davy O'Toole unlucky not to open his account. It was all Rearcross at this stage and Davy O'Toole pounced with two minutes remaining with a well taken effort after showing great composure in front of goal to seal a place in the Quarter Final for Rearcross.
