Rearcross
'A' 1 - Cappamore Celtic 2
Rearcross 'A' paid the price for a poor start in this Tournament
Semi-Final played in Rearcross after Cappamore took the lead in the 6th minute
when Mike Ryan swung in a teasing cross from the right with Thomas Healy taking
full advantage with a goal at the back post, Rearcross came back at Cappamore
and a Nigel Ryan delivery from the right was held by the Cappamore netminder.
Cappamore pretty much dominated affairs to the half time whistle although
Paddy Ryan Luke came close with a looping effort that wasn't far away after
a some fine trickery that left Cappamore defence at sixes.
Rearcross were again slow of the mark in the second half and were further
in arrears five minutes in when loose play on the right from Rearcross saw
the ball delivered across the danger area where Alan Wallace eventually poked
home following a goal mouth skirmish. Rearcross showed promise after this
and were somewhat unlucky not to take the tie to penalties, Davy O'Toole did
well to get in a cross minutes later with PJ McLoughlin unlucky not to make
headed contact. Rearcross pulled a goal back midway through the half when
Paddy Ryan Luke broke on the left before rifling to the top corner. Rearcross
were dominant at this stage, Davy O'Toole persevered to get behind the Cappmore
defence and was unlucky to see his effort pull just wide of the upright. The
Cappamore custodian came to the rescue with twelve minutes remaining with
a stop on the line from a Davy O'Toole effort, Rearcross pushed hard to the
end, however it was Cappamore who held on to book their place in the Tournament
Final against Clodiagh Rangers.
