Rearcross 'A' lost out to Borrisoleigh on a one nil score line in this league tie played in Borrisoleigh last Saturday evening, Rearcross made the brighter start with good passing movements a prominent feature early on and came close when a PJ McLoughlin flick was blocked down following good play from Kevin Mullins and Emmet Steed. Rearcross custodian Sean Sheehy who had a fine game throughout plucked from the air minutes later to avert the danger for Rearcross. The home side came close midway through the half when Mark Stapleton's free kick was just outside the post. Tommy Ryan Luke did well in the 24th minute with a well-timed tackle. Borrisoleigh's biggest threat was coming from dead ball situations and Noel Kent fired on target from outside the box, however Sean Sheehy was able to gather. Rearcross were unlucky the on 33 minutes when Davy O'Toole's cross was headed just wide by PJ McLoughlin. Rearcross were further denied with eight minutes remaining when the ball was eventually cleared following a goalmouth scramble. Rearcross again made the better start to the second half, Declan O'Toole's shot looked to be on its way in the 57th minute, however Gerry Treacy got down to deflect the ball around the post. The Borrisoleigh net minder came to the rescue again minutes later when Diarmuid Sheehy's headed effort was blocked under the crossbar. Rearcross again came close midway through the half when Liam Ryna put the ball across an open goalmouth, however the chance went a begging as the Borrisoleigh defence closed in and cleared to safety. Emmet Steed was unlucky in the 74th minute when he fired in from out on the right, however the ball ricocheted of the woodwork. Rearcross were dealt a sucker blow with eleven minutes remaining when the home side were given too much space down the right flank and it was Mark Stapleton who knocked the resulting cross to the net at the back post. Rearcross tried hard to get back in to the game, however the advantage was with Borrisoleigh who held on to secure the points.
