Rearcross 'A' recorded a comprehensive five nil victory against
Cormacstown Rovers in the Premier Division tie played at the away venue, the
opening exchanges were evenly contested and Sean Sheehy did well to save a
Cormacstown effort at the near post in the 5th minute, Nigel Ryan linked up
with Emmet Steed four minutes later with the volleyed effort not far away
from the Cormacstown upright. Rearcross went ahead on twenty minutes when
Sean Mullins jumped highest to knock the ball down to Emmet Steed who rammed
to the net from close range. Rearcross increased their lead in the 27th minute
when Nigel Ryan got behind the Cormacstown defence and lofted the ball to
the back of the net. Cormacstown showed strongly after this and it took a
well timed tackle from Derek O'Toole to avert the danger with twelve minutes
remaining in the half, a well struck Cormacstown shot two minutes later was
over the bar to leave Rearcross in the driving seat at the half way stage.
Rearcross went three nil head fifteen minutes in to the second half when Liam
Ryan stole the ball and drove to an empty net. Rearcross keeper Sean Sheehy
did well to hold a free kick midway through the half. Liam Ryan put Rearcross
four nil in front in the 73rd minute when he slipped the ball to the net after
some individual trickery. It was one way traffic after this and Nigel Ryan
put the issue beyond doubt with eleven minutes remaining with a well taken
goal.
