Two
Mile Borris 3 - Rearcross 'A' 0
Rearcross were to the visitors to Newhill Park for this FAI
Junior Cup second round game against Two Mile Borris and succumbed to a three
nil defeat, Rearcross will rue not getting on the score sheet in an opening
half where Rearcross enjoyed more than their fair share of possession, PJ
McLoughlin did have the ball in the net in the 7th minute, however play was
called back for an offside infringement, Two Mile Borris game close on 16
minutes with an effort that wasn't far over. Liam Ryan then fired over for
Rearcross four minutes later. Rearcross won successive corners but were finding
it difficult to break down some resolute defending from the home side. Rearcross
were well in the game at this stage and a Kevin Mullins corner kick with 18
minutes remaining in the half was headed over the crossbar by Paddy Ryan Luke.
The home side made a strong finish to the game and Sean Sheehy came to the
rescue for Rearcross with successive saves in the 34th and 35th minute to
leave the sides scoreless at the half way mark. Rearcross got off to the worst
possible start of the second half when Danny Graham broke through on goal
a minute after the restart and rounded Sean Sheehy before knocking to an empty
net. Rearcross were on the backfoot after this and it took a double save from
Sean Sheehy who turned in a fine individual performance to thwart the TSDL
side. Rearcross were unlucky not to draw level when Emmet Steed's shot from
the edge of the box on 57 minutes was held by the Two Mile Borris custodian,
the home side counter attacked and a fluent pass from midfield set James Scott
through on goal who lobbed Sean Sheehy with the deftest of finishes. Rearcross
might have reduced the deficit two minutes later, however Paddy Ryan Luke's
well struck shot veered away from the target. Sean Sheehy did well to save
a minute later before Emmet Steed came close for Rearcross. Danny Graham made
it three nil in the 78th minute after being left unmarked on the edge of the
six yard box before volleying to the back of net from a quickly taken corner
kick, Rearcross tried hard to get back in to the game, however the three nil
deficit proved a bridge too far against a well organised Two Mile Borris side.
