Nenagh
AFC 0 - Rearcross 'A' 1
Rearcross 'A' were the visitors to Islandbawn for this league fixture against
Nenagh AFC 'A' and came with maximum points after a well contested encounter
against the home side, Nenagh made a brisk start and it took a fine reflex save
from Sean Sheehy in the 3rd minute to keep the score line intact. Rearcross
regrouped and created an opening four minutes later, however the Nenagh keeper
was well positioned to block Emmet Steed's effort. Rearcross took the lead in
the 21st minute when a long delivery from Sean Sheehy saw the ball break to
Emmet Steed who rifled to the roof of the Nenagh net from the edge of the eighteen
yard box. A Nigel Ryan effort two minutes later wasn't far away, Nenagh were
dominant towards the end of the half and Rearcross were forced to defend successive
free kicks and a corner kick to keep their lead intact. Nenagh showed strongly
again at the start of the second half and came close with a well struck effort,
then an overhead kick from Michael O'Gorman pulled to the left of the upright,
Rearcross were forced to defend in numbers for the remainder of the game and
also had their chances on the break to add to their tally, however the first
half goal was to prove the difference on the day.
