Rearcross 'A' 3 - Cloughjordan 'A' 1

Rearcross 'A' were at home to Cloughjordan 'A' last Sunday morning and emerged victorious on a 3-1 score line, Rearcross made a strong start and went ahead in the 6th minute when Paddy Ryan Luke broke through the centre and rifled to the corner of the net, Sean Mullins then found Emmet Steed with the Cloughjordan netminder holding the resulting effort. The visitors were back on level terms in the 10th minute when Darren Killackey was given space on the left and finished the ball to the net with a chipped effort. It was tit for tat after that and Sean Sheehy saved on the twenty minute mark, a Peter Henley effort wasn't far away from the Rearcross upright in the 27th minute. Rearcross showed strongly towards the end of the half and a Paddy Ryan Luke delivery swung in from the right was headed inches wide of the upright by Emmet Steed. The exchanges at the start of the second half were evenly shared, Rearcross were let of the hook in the 70th minute when the visitors should have gone ahead, however the ball somehow bobbled over the crossbar. Rearcross went ahead on the 74th minute when a good move in the middle of the field saw the ball break to Nigel Ryan, the resulting pass was put to the feet of PJ McLoughlin who scooped to ball to the net with the deftest of touches. The Rearcross lead was further increased a minute later when Paddy Ryan Luke did well on the right before squaring to Nigel Ryan who rammed to the net from close range. Cloughjordan battled to get back in to game and won successive frees on the edge of the box late in the game, however both efforts were off target. The Cloughjordan keeper denied Emmet Steed in the 90th minute with a fine reflex save, however Rearcross had done enough on this occasion to secure the points.
