Rearcross
'A' 4 - Arra Rovers 3
Rearcross 'A' were at home to Arra Rovers last Sunday in the Munster Junior
Cup and were fortunate to come away with a 4-3 victory. Eddie Lawlor put Arra
Rovers with a superb strike five minutes in that left Sean Sheehy with no chance,
Nigel Ryan did well to get in a shot minutes later, however the effort veered
to the left of the upright, Kevin Mullins got a vital touch on the half hour
mark to deny the visitors. Sean Mullins had a shot on target in the 21st minute,
however the Portroe custodian was well positioned to gather. Rearcross showed
strongly towards the end of the half and Paddy Ryan Luke equalised on 29th minutes
with a well taken goal following good support play from PJ McLoughlin. Rearcross
went ahead with three minutes remaining when Sean Mullins lobbed the Portroe
custodian with a fine effort. Diarmuid Sheehy made it 3-1 on the stroke of half
time with a finish from the edge of the box. The home side handed the initiative
back to Arra Rovers two minutes after the restart with the concession of an
OG, Rearcross played poorly after this and Brian Quinn had the tie level midway
through the half with Brian Quinn poked to the net from close range. Both sides
were guilty of poor finishing towards the end of the game with both keepers
also earning their keep, however there was no stopping Paddy Ryan Luke on 84
minutes who collecting a Derek O'Toole lay off and advanced on goal before rifling
to the back of the net to send Rearcross through to the third round.
