Newtown Celtic 2 - Rearcross 'A' 2

Rearcross 'A' were away to Newtown Celtic in the league last Sunday and shared the spoils on a two all score line, Rearcross were slow to get in to this game, a Newtown free kick on the edge of the eighteen yard box was eventually cleared to safety, Rearcross came close on 12 minutes when PJ McLoughlin's follow through from a corner kick wasn't far away. Newtown counter attacked a delivery from out on the left was volleyed inches wide of the upright from the corner of the six yard box. Liam Ryan's well struck free kick was over the Newtown crossbar in the 20th minute, Rearcross were gaining territorial advantage at this stage and Liam Nolan shot over two minutes later. Rearcross took a fortuitous lead in the 27th minute which good play on the left forced a goalmouth skirmish and it was PJ McLoughlin who was on hand to finish the ball over the line. Rearcross might have gone further ahead ten minutes before half time, however the ball fell unkindly for Liam Ryan who had got behind the Newtown rearguard. Rearcross made a promising start to the second half, Nigel Ryan broke down the right flank in the 3rd minute, however the chipped effort was barely over. The home side upped the ante and attacked in droves winning a free kick on the edge of the box in the 57th minute, Eoin Hogan stepped up and rifled to the back of the net, it was all Newtown at this stage and James Brophy put the home side ahead in the 65th minute with a deft finish from just outside the area. Rearcross were chasing the game after this with the equaliser coming in the 89th minute when Declan O'Toole swung in an inch perfect cross to Derek O'Toole who headed home from the edge of the six yard box to ensure all wasn't lost on the day.
