Rearcross were at home to a determined Moneygall side in the league last
Sunday and had to settle for a share of the spoils on a one all draw score
line, the wet conditions detracted from this game somewhat which was to prove
to be a luckless outing for the homeside, Nigel Ryan fired a shot on target
in the 3rd minute, however Philip Larkin in the Moneygall goal was well positioned
to gather. Moneygall's Eamon McCormack was causing problems for Rearcross
and it was from one of these incisions that the ball broke to Conor Ryan who
was on hand to tap in from close range. Sean Mullins got on the end of a Kevin
Mullins free kick on 13 minutes with the headed effort not far over, Declan
O'Toole tested the Moneygall net minder midway through the half to no avail.
Derek O'Toole released PJ McLoughlin in the 34th minute, however the keeper
came out on the best end of the one on one situation, PJ McLoughlin was then
robbed three minutes later when his headed flick skidded inches wide of the
upright.
Rearcross made a lively start to the second half and drew level in the 52nd
minute when Derek O'Toole knocked to the corner of the net following good
work by PJ McLoughlin, Rearcross had claims for a handball denied four minutes
later as play was waved on despite strong protestations from Rearcross, it
was proving to be one of those days as Rearcross attacked in droves, PJ McLoughlin
broke on the left and drilled on target with fifteen minutes remaining, however
the ball rebounded of the crossbar before being cleared to safety. Declan
O'Toole then found space on the left minutes later, however the resulting
strike pulled to the left of the upright, Rearcross pushed hard for the winner,
however time ran out for the home side who deserved more from the encounter.
