Cloughjordan 'A' 4 - Rearcross 'A' 3

Rearcross 'A' made their exit from the Ricky Fogarty Cup in a blustery Cloughjordan last Sunday morning on a 4-3 score line against the home side, Rearcross playing against the elements in the opening half made a bright start and came close when PJ McLoughlin released Declan O'Toole with the resulting effort not far away after three minutes of play. Rearcross went a goal behind in the 10th minute when a Barry Loughnane corner finished in the net following a deflection from a luckless Rearcross defender. Rearcross were enjoying their fair share of possession and Emmet Steed's well struck effort from outside the box flew over the crossbar in the 16th minute. Rearcross had claims for a penalty turned down midway through the half when a Cloughjordan player appeared to commit a handball infringement inside the area, Rearcross got back on par a minute before half time when good play in front of the box saw Liam Nolan's cross to Emmet Steed who reacted well to head home from close range. Rearcross hit the self destruct button at the start of the second half and conceded a hat trick of goals in an eight minute spell, the first coming in the 50th minute when the ball broke to Darren Killackey who drove to the net at the near post, Kevin Kennedy pounced a minute later when he poked the ball home from outside the six yard box, Reacross were further rocked in the 57th minute when a long range effort finished in the net with the credit going to Kevin Kennedy. Sean Sheehy did well to make a body save on 67 minutes to thwart a goal scoring opportunity following a good move on the right. Rearcross kept plugging and pulled a goal back with nineteen minutes remaining when Kevin Mullin's corner kick was headed to the roof of the net by PJ McLoughlin, Rearcross attacked in droves and reduced the deficit to a minimum on 80 minutes when Nigel Ryan tucked the ball inside the post after the ball broke from a Kevin Mullins corner kick, Rearcross applied all the pressure in the remaining minutes and were denied an equaliser in the 89th minute when the Cloughjordan custodian saved on the line. Rearcross pushed hard to the final whistle, however the home side held on to book their place in the semi-final.
