Rearcross 'A' 2 - Ballingarry 0

Rearcross 'A' progressed to the last eight of the Tipperary Cup with this two nil victory against First Division League runners up Ballingarry at Rearcross FC Grounds last Sunday, Rearcross made a promising start but came up against a stubborn defensive performance from the visiting team, Nigel Ryan linked up with Emmet Steed on 16 minutes however the resulting effort was deflected over the Ballingarry bar, Damien Mullins pushed forward midway through the half and was robbed when the Ballingarry custodian saved at point blank range, it was proving to be one of those days for the home side when a rasper from Kevin Mullins thumped of the crossbar in the 26th minute. Rearcross has claims for a handball turned down two minutes later and then Emmet Steed had the ball in the Ballingarry net, however the effort was disallowed for an offside infringement. Rearcross were fortunate not to go behind a minute before the break when Ballingarry broke through on goal after a defensive lapse, however Sean Sheehy advanced and was able to make the save. Rearcross made a strong start to the second half with Kevin Mullins doing well to fire on target, however a determined Ballingarry came back at Rearcross and might have taken the lead after a concentration blip in the Rearcross rearguard. The home side were denied when Ballingarry net minder Darren Brown who turned in a fine performance throughout made a fine save to thwart Nigel Ryan's penalty effort. James Gough found space on the left to hit a left legged effort three minutes later which wasn't far off. Rearcross eventually got the breakthrough when Declan O'Toole's headed effort rebounded off the underside of the cross bar with nine minutes remaining and it was Emmet Steed who reacted first to bang home from close range, the initiative was now with the home side and Nigel Ryan sealed the victory after slotting to back of the net in the 92nd minute.
