Rearcross 'A' claimed full points against Blackcastle 'A' in this well contested
league fixture played at the Templemore venue last Sunday afternoon. The home
side enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, however Rearcross defended
stoutly and then it took a body save from Sean Sheehy to deny Stefan Leahy
in the 20th minute. Blackcastle had claims for a penalty turned down in the
28th minute. Rearcross were starting to work their way in to the game and
went ahead in the 31st minute when Emmet Steed reacted well to drive home
from close range, Stefan Leahy was in the action again for the home side with
eight minutes remaining, however Sean Sheehy was able to get behind the well
struck effort. Sean Sheehy was to the fore throughout for the visitors and
did well to claim a dangerous delivery on the stroke of half time.
Rearcross increased their tally six minutes in to the second half when good
play from Simon Kennedy saw Nigel Ryan produce the trickery on the right,
the resulting cross broke to PJ McLoughlin who volleyed to the back of the
net. Sean Sheehy was to deny Blackcastle again with a smart save three minutes
later. The home side reduced arrears midway through the half when Steve Revins
was the provider on the left and it was Stefan Leahy who was on hand to finish
to the net from the edge of the six yard box, Rearcross were unlucky not to
restore their lead with fourteen minutes remaining when a fine run by Nigel
Ryan on the right saw the resulting cross met first time by Liam Ryan who
was unlucky not to find the corner of the net. Blackcastle pushed hard for
the equaliser, however Rearcross held firm to secure the points.
