Blackcastle
'A' 0 - Rearcross 'A' 3
Rearcross
'A' were the visitors to Templemore last Saturday evening for a league fixture
against Blackcastle 'A' and secured an away win on a three nil score line. Blackcastle
threatened early on and Rearcross were fortunate in the 6th minute when Sean Sheehy
gathered the ball in the 6th minute after a goalmouth scramble. Rearcross were
denied three minutes when PJ McLoughlin swung in the cross from the right to a
well positioned Declan O'Toole with the resulting effort clipping the bottom of
the upright. The home side came close on fourteen minutes with a header the bounced
downwards and over Sean Sheehy's cross bar. It was end to end stuff at this stage
and a Kevin Mullins free kick midway through the half drifted over the bar midway
through the half. Rearcross went ahead on 31 minutes when a Kevin Mullins corner
kick was met first time by PJ McLoughlin who's swift touch deceived the Blackcastle
custodian as the ball could only be parried to the roof of the net. Blackcastle
upped the tempo after this and the Rearcross keeper was well positioned to hold
Stefan Leahy's strike from in front of goal with twelve minutes remaining in the
half and then a minute later Diarmuid Sheehy made a tremendous tackle to avert
a certain goal and a fumble just outside the six yard box. Blackcastle applied
the pressure at the start of the second half and Rearcross breathed a sigh of
relief when Cathal Leahy's headed effort from a corner kick whizzed just wide
of the upright eight minutes after the re-start. Rearcross were living dangerous
at this stage and Derek O'Toole did well get back and break up a threatening attack
minutes later. Rearcross did concede in the 59th minute when the ball bounced
to the net, however the goal was disallowed for a pushing infringement on the
Rearcross keeper, the visitors attacked up field and a fine flowing move saw Nigel
Ryan producing the trickery on the right wing before sending a low drive skidding
across the area, PJ McLoughlin sold the dummy as Liam Nolan queued up to send
the sweetest of left footed drives to the back of the net. Blackcastle weren't
going down without a fight and a long range pile driving effort from Steve Revins
on 67 minutes forced a superb reflex save from Sean Sheehy when the ball was destined
for the top cornetr, Stefan Leahy shot just wide of the Rearcross goal with fifteen
minutes, however a frustrating day for the home side was dealt a killer blow two
minutes later when Emmet Steed poked the ball past the Blackcastle custodian following
a one and one situation before keeping his composure to knock the ball to an empty
net, Declan O'Toole's effort in the 81st minute was smothered by the Blackcastle
netminder, however it mattered little as Rearcross had done enough to secure full
points on this occasion.
