Rearcross 'A' 1 - Cloughjordan 'A' 2

Rearcross 'A' fell to their first league defeat last Sunday morning against a lively Cloughjordan combination at Rearcross FC Grounds, the home side missing some key players will rue not reflecting their first half dominance on the score board and a lapse of concentration at the start of the second half that saw Cloughjordan steal in for an equaliser. The home side made a promising start enjoying dominance during the early passages of play, Diarmuid Sheehy came close after four minutes of play when his well struck free kick clipped the top of the Cloughjordan crossbar, Rearcross did go ahead in the 10th minute when James Gough swung in a splendid cross from the right to Nigel Ryan who headed home at the back post. Cloughjordan regrouped after this and a looping effort from Don McClean forced a fine save out of Sean Sheehy who tipped the ball just over the bar. Kevin Kennedy came close for the visitors midway through the half with a headed effort from a corner kick. Rearcross were on top again towards the end of the half and were denied when Nigel Ryan's effort was saved by the Cloughjordan custodian thirteen minutes before the break. Emmet Steed knocked to the visitors net in the 41st minute following a fine passing movement, however the effort was disallowed for an offside infringement. Rearcross got off to the worst possible start in the second half when Stephen Murphy collected the ball and squared to Eoin Killackey who was all alone in front of goal with the resulting effort beating Sean Sheehy with just seconds gone, the initiative was with Cloughjordan after this and the visitors went on to dominate proceedings for long spells, Stephen Murphy scored what proved to be the winner midway through the half when the ball broke following poor defending with the resulting drive from in front of goal whizzing inside the upright. Rearcross had chances to grab an equalizer with Paul Murphy and Nigel Ryan coming close and also had claims for two second half penalties declined, however Cloughjordan stood firm to secure the points, Rearcross will now need to regroup and face a tough away assignment against Toomevara next weekend.
