Thurles Town 1 - Rearcross 'A' 4

Rearcross 'A' got back to winning ways with a resounding 4-1 victory over Thurles Town at Thurles Greyhound Stadium last Sunday morning in the Munster Junior Cup, Rearcross coming off the heel of two league defeats were fast out of the traps, however it was the home side who went ahead after seven minutes of play when Ben Brophy steered the ball home from in front of goal after the ball broke from a corner kick, Rearcross regrouped and a flowing move down the right flank a minute later saw Davy O'Toole deliver from the right, however the chance went a begging as the Thurles rearguard cleared to safety. Davy O'Toole was in the action again two minutes later after finding Emmet Steed in space, however the Thurles custodian did well to make the save. Thurles Town were also have their moments and Rearcross keeper Sean Sheehy did well to close the angle and make a good body block on the eighteen minute mark. Rearcross equalised in the 27th minute when a Kevin Mullins corner kick was met by Derek O'Toole who jumped highest to head the ball downwards and on to the path of Emmet Steed who knocked the ball home from close range. Derek O'Toole got on the end of another Kevin Mullins corner with seven minutes remaining, however this time round the headed effort flew over the crossbar. Rearcross were caught on the backfoot a minute later when the home side broke through the centre and the ball looked to be destined for net, however Damien Mullins did extremely well to get back and clear off the line. Sean Sheehy came to the rescue for Rearcross three minutes later with a good block from a promising Thurles move, Rearcross took the lead in the 45th minute when Derek O'Toole got behind the Thurles defence before sending a pile driver to the corner of the net. The visitors made a strong start to the second half and Paul Murphy forced a good save from the Thurles keeper two minutes in, Paul Murphy then turned provider two minutes later after laying the ball on for Davy O'Toole who advanced on goal before sending a clinical effort to the bottom corner of the net. Rearcross but the game beyond the reach of Thurles on the hour mark after a fine move saw Emmet Steed brought down in the box, Kevin Mullins stepped up and converted with aplomb from the spot. Rearcross were on top after this and came close with good efforts from Declan O'Toole and Davy O'Toole, in any case Rearcross had done enough on the day to earn a place in the third round of the competition.
