Rearcross 'A' 1 - Blackcastle 'A' 6

Rearcross 'A' turned in a dismal performance in this league encounter at Rearcross FC Grounds last Sunday and succumbed to a heavy league defeat to a well organised Blackcastle side. Rearcross missing some regulars made a lively start and Eamon Devitt came close in the 17th minute with a well worked effort, Declan O'Toole linked up with Davy O'Toole six minutes later with the visiting custodian averting the danger, it was the turn of Blackcastle's Cathal Scully minutes later with a blistering effort that was just wide of the upright. Blackcastle signalled their intent of things to come in the 27th minute with a well struck shot that thumped off the crossbar. The exchanges were being evenly shared at this stage and Rearcross might have gone ahead when Davy O'Toole released Eamon Devitt, however Noel Leahy did well to make the save with thirteen minutes remaining in the half. Rearcross hit the self destruct button four minutes later and allowed Shane Scully to drive home from outside the box, John Coleman followed up a minute with goal number two after producing the trickery on the right, John Coleman grabbed his second of the day two minutes before the break after stealing the ball on the end line and drilling to the net from a tight angle.
Rearcross got the start they needed to the second half when Declan O'Toole sliced to the net from close range two minutes in after good play from Davy O'Toole on the right, Rearcross were on top after this and came close with a Nigel Ryan effort in the 56th minute, however the Rearcross challenge faltered after this and Blackcastle got on top all over the field. The visitors restored their advantage in the 70th minute when Killian O'Neill got on the score sheet, it was one way traffic after this and Mark Cahill made it 5-1 in the 75th minute with a headed effort following a corner kick, Larry Stapleton completed the rout for the Templemore side after poking the ball home in the 83rd minute to leave Rearcross with some food for thought.
