Holycross 5 - Rearcross 'B' 2

Rearcross 'B' suffered a third league defeat in a row at the Holycross venue last Sunday afternoon coming home on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline. A depleted visiting side got off to a bad start conceding a goal after five minutes, Rearcross settled well after this and began to put together some good passages of play and got a deserved equaliser on twenty minutes when Sean Kennedy found Liam Ryan in space on the left wing who beat two defenders and finished coolly to the corner of the net. Rearcross grabbed a second ten minutes later when a free kick floated deep into the penalty area by John Ryan Luke eventually fell to Liam Ryan who gave the Holycross keeper no chance. The home side were forced to respond after this and forced three corners in succession with Eamonn Wade doing well to deflect a header over the cross bar. Holycross drew level five minutes before half time when a spectacular Joseph O'Meara effort from thirty yards flew into the top corner.
Holycross took the lead fifteen minutes into the second half when a free kick in the box was half cleared by Rearcross only to be blasted to the back of the net by Hilton Feehan from the edge of the box. Rearcross fell further behind on 70 minutes when a quick Holycross counter attack saw Mark Fogarty netting and then further woe was to following for the visitors when Conor Ryan hit the target. To their credit Rearcross continued to press forward and were unlucky not to be rewarded for their efforts and came closest when Matthew Ryan Luke was denied by the post with ten miuntes to go, the game was put beyond doubt when Holycross grabbed a fifth late in the game when Joseph O'Meara grabbed his second of the day.
